About Direct Primary Care

What Is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a membership-based model of primary care that removes insurance from the equation. Instead of billing your insurer for every visit, you pay a simple monthly fee directly to your doctor. That membership covers a wide range of primary care services — with no co-pays, no surprise bills, and no prior authorizations standing between you and your physician.

DPC physicians keep their patient panels small by design. This means longer appointments, same- or next-day access, and a relationship with a doctor who actually knows you — not just your chart.

How It Works at Arcturus Family Medicine

At Arcturus Family Medicine, your monthly membership gives you direct access to Dr. Lindsay for in-office visits, telehealth appointments, and ongoing care management. We handle the full spectrum of primary care — from preventive wellness and chronic disease management to acute illness and minor procedures — all included in your membership.

Because we don’t work with insurance for primary care services, we can spend our time focused entirely on you. No bureaucracy. No middlemen. Just medicine the way it was meant to be practiced.

DPC works alongside — not instead of — health insurance. We recommend pairing your membership with a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) or a similar catastrophic coverage plan for hospitalizations, specialist referrals, and major procedures.

New Tax Benefits: The One Big Beautiful Bill

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed into law on July 4, 2025 and effective January 1, 2026, significantly expanded access to tax-advantaged benefits for DPC patients.1

Use Your HSA for DPC Membership Fees

Beginning January 1, 2026, DPC monthly fees are now qualified medical expenses under IRS rules, meaning you can pay for your Arcturus Family Medicine membership directly from a Health Savings Account (HSA).1,2 The law sets a monthly cap of $150 per individual and $300 per family for HSA reimbursement of DPC fees.

Arcturus Family Medicine’s current monthly membership fees fall within these federally established limits, meaning your entire membership cost may be HSA-eligible.

HSA Eligibility Is Protected

Previously, enrolling in a DPC practice could jeopardize your ability to contribute to an HSA if your insurer considered the membership a secondary health plan. The One Big Beautiful Bill resolves this: DPC arrangements are now explicitly excluded from the definition of a health plan for HSA-eligibility purposes.1 You can be a DPC member and contribute to your HSA without conflict.

Counting Toward Your Deductible

Whether DPC membership fees count toward your insurance deductible depends on your specific health plan. Some insurers may elect to apply DPC fees toward your deductible; others may not. We encourage you to contact your insurance carrier directly to understand how your plan treats DPC membership costs.
